Boyd Ballard, Weyburn native and former Red Wing netminder,
has been named Hockey East Co-Rookie of the Week with his first
shutout in only two starts for the Providence College Friars.
Ballard made 24 saves while in the net for his second start this
season to shut out the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs with a score
of 3-0. The unbreakable barrier allowed the Friars to improve
their record to 3-2.
Ballard made 30 saves during his first and only other start in
the season to help the Friars take a 5-4 win in overtime. This
season Ballard has posted a 2-0 mark, a 1.95 goals against average
and a .931 save percentage.
During his last season with the Red Wings, Ballard earned SJHL
honors after posting a 23-3-4 mark, a .908 save percentage and
a 2.90 goals against average.
