Planting a windbreak

Assiniboia Park School teacher Marlene Ronsman demonstrates to the Grade 1 and 4 classes how to plant a seedling. The students planted around 400 mountain ash, Manitoba maple and Siberian crabapple trees around the perimeter of the school yard to help provide a wind break for the school. The trees were provided through the Treemendous Saskatchewan Foundation, along with a grant from the Canadian Wildlife Federation.

Jingle dance

Carlene Bison dances around a circle during her jingle dance for the students and staff of Haig School on Thursday afternoon. She and sister Rae Dawn were part of the visiting Bear Claw Dancers, which put on a number of dances for Haig, Souris and Assiniboia Park students to promote cultural awareness. The dancers are from White Bear and Ocean Man reserves, with a number of them having won prizes at the world competition held annually at Hartford, Conn.
