Nurturing for tomorrow

Canada's Governor General, the Right Honorable Roméo LeBlanc, stands amid a group of St. Dominic Savio elementary school students. LeBlanc was in Weyburn on Tuesday morning to participate in the city's Arbor Day celebrations at the Weyburn Legion. "It's a discovery for me," LeBlanc said about his trip to Weyburn. In his speech at the ceremonies, LeBlanc stressed the importance of planting and nurturing trees today so we can enjoy them for years to come.

Can you hear anything?

Visiting medical student Muhammed Hussain listens to emergency room patient Clinton Schwindt's heart while Weyburn General Hospital's Chief of Medical Staff Dr. Philip Fong, along with another medical student Geethan Chandran, nursing supervisor Judy Ludke, Hussain, med student Rjesh Patel, Dr. Katie Fong and nurse Tracey Rothwell watch the procedure. Chandran, Hussain and Patel were visiting medical students from the University of Saskatoon who recently spent two weeks in Weyburn where they shadowed staff at the South Central Health District. The shadowing program is a new insentive by the U of S to keep Saskatchewan medical students in the province and practicing in rural centres such as Weyburn.
