Church restorers

Gordon Kvammen and Ole Tenold stand before Salem Church south of Torquay, which re-opened its doors for a service 35 years after it was closed due to the depopulation of area residents. The restoration began with trees around the church cemetery, which is still extensively used, then the bell and roof, and most recently the interior and painting of the interior and exterior trims. The parish has spent about $10,000 so far on the restoration work.

Teetering tots

Riley Laird, left, and Teneal Soanes enjoy the morning outdoors, teetering back and forth in the playground behind the Soo Line Day Care Co-operative. Approximately 68 children between the ages of 18 months and 12 years are currently registered at the day care, and enrollment is expected to increase with new people moving to the area and school starting.
