El Rancho robbery arrest

Former Weyburn resident John Raymond Leippy is escorted into the city's courthouse by Constable Rod Stafford and other members of the Weyburn Police Service on Monday morning. Leippy was arrested earlier in the week and charged with attempted murder, armed robbery with violence, possession of a firearm while prohibited from doing so, theft of a vehicle, breach of an undertaking and breach of a condition of release. The charges stem from an incident on Aug. 1 when the El Rancho Motel was robbed and one of the owners was shot.

Meeting the voters

Conservative leadership hopeful Joe Clark talks over agricultural issues with Joni Gustafson of Macoun and Karen Carlson of Midale last night during Clark's Weyburn stop. Gustafson is the daughter-in-law of Senator Len Gustafson who introduced Clark. The talk last night was the former prime minister's fourth stop of the day, which began in Toronto and Winnipeg. The vote for the PC party leadership will take place on Oct. 24.
