Handling a hunter

A European goshawk gingerly steps on the gloved hand of falconer Ken Roczniak from his perch in River Park on Thursday. Roczniak, from Freelton, Ont., joined around 30 other falconry enthusiasts in Weyburn last week for the biennial Canadian Falcon Meet held from Oct. 5 to 10. Due to the long drive from southern Ontario, he stayed on another week to do some more hunting with his goshawk and a peregrine falcon in the Weyburn area. Falconers converged on Weyburn from all across Canada and the U.S., along with visitors from Scotland, England and South Africa.

Face down in the jello

Alaina Flaaten, Megan Kalk and Jason Stepp go hard at it during a jello-eating contest at the Family Place on Thursday night. The game was part of Family Fun Night, which included a fish pond, hot dogs and cake, face-painting and open playtime on the play structures. The special evening was held to celebrate National Family Week in the city.
