November has had a number of events of interest to parents, with around 75 parents taking in an information night for post-secondary education on Nov. 2. Representatives were on hand to answer any questions parents had for their children's education after Grade 12. On Nov. 9, the usual number of parents showed up for parent-teacher interviews, after all students received their report cards on Nov. 6.
Parents and the public are invited to come this Friday, Nov. 13, to watch the WCS-sponsored debate tournament to be held from 3:30 to 9 p.m. Some judges are still needed, so if anyone can help they are asked to call the school.
All parents, grandparents, relatives, friends and members of the public are invited to the fifth annual WCS fowl supper, to be held on Monday, Nov. 30 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Over 650 students from eight outlying schools along with the Comp attended the post-secondary education day on Nov. 3. The students were able to choose three different sessions from among 14 post-secondary institutions, and learn about courses, requirements and admission. This event is held every two years.
Career panels on the oil industry will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 18, with representatives attending from PanCanadian Petroleum.
In sports, the volleyball playoffs will be hosted by the Eagles on Thursday, Nov. 12, to determine which teams will advance to the SHSAA provincials to be held on Nov. 20-21. Action gets underway at 5 p.m. with the boys on the courts first. This past weekend, the boys' team was victorious over Lipton in the gold medal game of their home mini-tournament. The girls made it to the championship round in a tournament in Lumsden, but were not successful in earning a medal. Jennifer Bresciani was chosen to the tournament all-star team.
The Weyburn Comp will host an exhibition university men's basketball game on Tuesday, Nov. 24, between the University of Regina Cougars and the Dawson Community College from Glendive, Mont. Tickets are now on sale and can be picked up at the phys. ed office at the school. Adults get in for $5, students for $3 and children will be admitted for $1.
