Rotary talent show to aid Performing arts centre

The proposed performing arts centre for Weyburn will get an early boost from a community group. Weyburn-based talent will headline a Variety Talent Show, which is being staged by the Rotary Club of Weyburn on Friday, Dec. 4.

The event will be held at the Fifth Street Social Club, upstairs in the Elks Hall, with cocktails at 6 p.m., a supper at 7 and the show at 8. Tickets are $15 each, and are available at the Elks Hall or from any member of the Rotary Club.

The talent line-up includes such local luminaries as singers Mandy Szczecinski, Gary Sidloski, Joe Weisgerber and Julli Erikssen, pianist Tom Schuck and magicians Marcel and Alex Roy.

The event is to showcase some of Weyburn's own talent, and also to raise funds for the proposed performing arts centre, which organizers hope to locate at the Weyburn Comprehensive School.

"As a club we want to promote local people and we want to promote local arts," said organizer Ron Milliker, adding the artists are performing for free as their contribution towards the project.

"We're looking forward to a good show, because most of the performers are interested in that field," said Milliker.

A steering committee has been working on the project for much of this year, with two public meetings held so far to gauge community interest and gain input as to how to proceed, along with meetings with groups such as the Rotary Club.
