Most Weyburn-area churches are planning to hold special celebrations for the Christmas season with special services, Sunday School programs and singing, many of the events starting this coming weekend.
At Grace United Church, the youth choir's Christmas presentation will be given on Sunday, Dec. 13, at both the 9:30 and 11 a.m. services. The Sunday School will have their presentation on Sunday, Dec. 20 at 11 a.m.
A Christmas Eve service will be held at 7:30 p.m. with carol singing and a telling of the Christmas story. Throughout the Advent season, there will be lighting of candles on the Advent wreath. Also, a Blue Christmas service with the getting-through-the-holidays support group will be held with the date and time to be announced.
The Knox Presbyterian Church's Sunday School Christmas program will be held on Dec. 20, with the service at 10:30 a.m., with a luncheon to follow at 11:30 a.m. in the Knox Hall. On Christmas Eve, there will be a celebration of communion at 7:30 p.m.
The Weyburn Free Methodist Community Church will hold its Sunday School Christmas program on Dec. 13 at 6:30 p.m., and a Christmas Eve service beginning at 6 p.m.
The Calvary Baptist Church will hold a candlelight service on Christmas Eve, starting at 7 p.m.
At New Covenant Ministries, the Christmas program will be held on Dec. 13 starting at 10:30 a.m., with a noon meal to follow.
St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church will have a Christmas Eve mass at 7 p.m. and at midnight, and a mass will be celebrated on Christmas Day at 10 a.m.
Peace Lutheran Church will have its Sunday School program on Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m. The church will also be hosting a service at Souris Valley Extended Care Centre on Dec. 13 at 2 p.m., with carol singing, to which everyone is invited to come. On Christmas Eve, Peace Lutheran's Yellow Grass congregation will have candlelight service at 7 p.m., followed at 9 p.m. with a another service at the Weyburn church.
The Salvation Army will hold Christmas services on Dec. 13 and 20, both at 11 a.m., and on Christmas Eve will hold their annual dinner for those who are alone at holiday time, starting at 4:30 p.m. The Salvation Army is taking applications for Christmas hampers, and the deadline is Friday, Dec. 18, as they will be delivered on Dec. 21 and 22.
At Zion Lutheran Church, the Sunday School will hold its program with the theme, Christmas in Customs, on Dec. 20 at 11 a.m. A service will be held on Christmas Eve, starting at 7:30 p.m., and on Christmas Day at 11 a.m. with communion.
Zion Lutheran will also host an inter-denominational community Christmas carol sing-along on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m., at which Rev. Irvin Dyck of the Weyburn Gospel Assembly will give the message. The service will be followed with refreshments.
The Weyburn Gospel Assembly will have their Kids' Club present a dinner and program on Dec. 13, with the dinner being held at 5 p.m., and the program will follow at 7.
The Weyburn Church of Christ and Weyburn Pentecostal Assembly will be having their regular services on Dec. 13 and 20 without any additional service times planned.
