Krista Sandney has got what it takes to be a good post.

That's a basketball post, of course - a team position where height comes in pretty handy. Sandney, although she is only 15, already stands six feet tall and uses every inch of it while playing post for the Weyburn Comprehensive School Sr. Girls Eagles.

"You're closer to the net and able to reach the rebounds before anyone else," says the Grade 11 student, who is returning for her second year on the team coached by Len Williams.

Sandney brings several years of playing experience to the team, having played for two seasons with the Weyburn Junior High Cobras prior to joining the Eagles. She is also a veteran of the Comprehensive School's girls soccer team and was one of the players who went on an extended exhibition trip to England last spring.

It was a definite highlight for Sandney, who received a rare chance to get down and dirty on the pitch in Sheffield, the birthplace of modern soccer.

"We got to play in the mud and stuff," she recalls. "It was lots of fun."

Soccer is primarily something for Sandney to do in the off-season when she's not playing basketball, she adds. Playing team sports has shown her how to work with others to get a job done, and she has learned from Williams how to be more assertive on the basketball court as well.

"He's taught me how to be meaner," she laughs. "I need him to motivate me, I guess."
