With the end of the year approaching the deadline for entering into the Weyburn Music Festival is a little over six weeks away.
Marilyn Schuck, secretary for the music festival association says the entry deadline for next year's festival in Jan. 25, 1999.
This year's edition of the music festival runs from March 8, 9 and 10 for the band competition at the Weyburn Comprehensive School. The individual solos competition will be held on March 10, 11 and 12 also to be held at the Comp while the piano competition will be held from March 15 to 19 inclusive at the T.C. Douglas Centre. The Stars of the festival performance will be held on Tuesday, March 23 at Weyburn Comprehensive.
A published program will be available for approximately two weeks before the festival starts up at a price of $5 per program with proceeds going back to the music festival to cover the costs of printing the program.
Schuck says the hard work of many volunteers are what make the festival successful and 1999's version will be no different. Anyone interested in helping to billet a young musician may contract Carol Sproule. People interested in helping with the piano competition may contact Cindy Bell, and others interested in volunteering with the individual vocal competition may contact Marnell Cornish. Band competition volunteers may call Shelly Mahaffey.
