Like her sister Alana and brother Lance, Bonnie Wakefield is making some serious waves with the Weyburn Water Polo Club. She has enjoyed it enough to return for what is now her third season of playing this exciting game.

"It's fun," says Wakefield, 13. "You get to meet new people and it's really athletic."

That's particularly true when you're playing in the pool as a forward and often find yourself in the thick of the action.

"I like being a forward. I like scoring goals. You get more of a workout when you're forward because you swim the most."

The highly popular club keeps her in the water quite a bit during the spring with two evening practices a week at the Weyburn Leisure Centre.

Wakefield had taken swimming lessons before joining the water polo club and also enjoys basketball, volleyball, soccer and especially baseball. Playing as either a pitcher or an outfielder, she was a member of the Weyburn Jets baseball team last year and plans to try out for the Rebels travelling team this summer as well.

A person who enjoys outdoor activities, Wakefield looks up to her brother Lance as a role model when it comes to sports. "He's strong and in a lot of sports," she says.

Her personal goal as an athlete is a simple one, she adds.

"Try my hardest at everything."
