The Weyburn Comprehensive School will have a booth at the Weyburn Farm, Home and Leisure Show this Thursday and Friday, April 22 and 23. Parents and students from the music department will be there to answer questions and ask for your support for their upcoming trip to Toronto.
The SRC will have samples and articles from the Eagles Nest to view and to buy. The graduates will have a raffle and a video from the 1997 graduation, along with information about Grad 99 to be held on Saturday, June 26.
An address file for all former Comp and Collegiate students is being started, so all ex-students are asked to drop by and fill in their name and address in the proper page of the books provided. There will also be other information about school programs and possibly information about the sharing of facilities with the Southeast Regional College and the proposed performing arts centre.
The other big event this week will be the spring drama production of Archie Andrews, to be on the stage on Thursday and Friday evenings, April 22 and 23, with the curtain rising at 7:30 p.m. each day.
The play features the talents of Derek Seitz, Courtney Edwardson, Joanna Kraft, Jordan Anderson, Erin Grosjean, Jolene Sander, Lily Dey, Matt Bangsund, Lise Marcotte, Marie Barber, Davin Bangsund, Danielle Sproule, David MacPherson and a special appearance by Jasmine. This is a light-hearted comedy based on the comic book characters, and will be enjoyed by young and old.
All parents are invited to the parent-teacher interviews to be held in the Cafetorium on Monday, April 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. Further information will be included in the report cards which will be given out today, April 21.
The Dawn Beach Memorial Scholarship has been provided to the school by her family. The scholarship will accompany the R.C. Smith general proficiency award which is awarded annually to a student who maintains a high average and good involvement in extra-curricular activities. It is open to students who wish to enrol in a post-secondary institution. Because it is awarded to the R.C. Smith recipient, there will not be any application criteria. This scholarship will be awarded for the next seven years.
The first annual WCS Cheerleading competition will be held on Saturday, May 1 in the gymnasium from 7-9 p.m. For the first time since the James Weir cheerleading competition was suspended in the 1970s, the girls, and maybe even some boys, will be showing their talents in front of a crowd in a competitive situation here in Weyburn. The organizers have been able to gather 10 teams from Saskatchewan and Manitoba to be here. It looks to be a great event, so let's get out and support the team. There will be a silver collection taken.
The Weyburn Music Auxiliary's fund-raising dinner will be held on Monday, May 3 in the WCS Cafetorium, from 5 to 7 p.m. The supper will feature ham and scalloped potatoes along with entertainment by members of the band and choir.
All proceeds will go towards helping to defray expenses for the band trip to the nationals in Toronto in mid-May. The prices will be the same as the annual fowl supper, at $7 for adults, $4 for students, $1 for children aged six and under and a family pass for $25.
