Students looking forward

Rural graduation plans swing into high gear

Graduation plans are swinging into high gear at a number of rural area schools, as the end of the school year approaches and senior students get ready to embark on their future.

Radville

At the Radville High School, plans are in the works for graduation ceremonies on Saturday, May 1 to be held at the high school.

The 20 grads have chosen the theme "Our dreams shape our paths for tomorrow." The exercises, which begin at 7 p.m., will feature RCMP officer Randy Rechner as guest speaker, a tribute to the parents acknowledging their help in getting the grads to their special day, grad prophecies and a "remember when" slide presentation.

A dance will follow the exercises from 9 p.m. until midnight, with a ticket price of $3 per adult. The grand march will take place at 10 p.m.

Grad scholarships will be awarded prior to the ceremonies at Radville High School's Awards Day.

Pangman

May 28 is the date Pangman School graduates have chosen for their ceremonies, which will be held in the Pangman Recreation Centre.

Following a 5:30 p.m. banquet, the exercises will begin at 7:30 p.m. Emcee for the night will be teacher Iris Warren. The grad theme, "We create our tomorrows by what we dream today" will be reinforced by the guest speaker, valedictorian and salutorian.

The 14 graduates will pass on their last will and testament to the next year's grad class, while the Grade 11 students will talk about their predecessors' fates and ambitions.

A slide presentation showcasing each grad's life will take place, along with a tribute to the parents, accompanied by a performance from local singer Angela Sheppard.

The grand march will begin at 9:30 p.m., with a dance to follow.

Ogema

At Ogema High School, graduates will hold their big day on May 8, with the theme "Climb high, climb far, your goal the sky, your aim the stars."

The banquet will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by exercises at 7:30 p.m., the grand march and a social and receiving line. No dance will be held.

The evening will be hosted by the Grade 11 students, with Ed Fahl, principal of Avonlea School, as the guest speaker.

A representative from the University of Regina will be on hand to present one student with a full-tuition scholarship.

Midale

Midale Central School will hold their grad on June 30 at the school, with a banquet beginning at 5:30 p.m., exercises at 8 p.m., grand march at around 9:45 p.m., and dance to follow.

For the first time there will be duo guest speakers at Midale's graduation exercises - teachers Roxanne Riess and Ron Sigstad. Valedictorian Rodney Gill will also speak, and the grads will enjoy a slide presentation, last will and testament, and class histories. This year's theme is "On the edge of a dream."

Teacher Cheri Koch will sing at the ceremony, and one of the graduates may also sing.

Since Midale's graduates have chosen to have a dry grad, additional entertainment in the form of a hypnotist will be provided around 1 a.m. at the dance.

Yellow Grass

The graduation ceremonies for Yellow Grass High School are scheduled to take place May 21 at the school, with the banquet starting at 6 p.m., exercises at 9 p.m., and dance to follow, which will end at 11:30 p.m.

The banquet will encompass the presentation by the guest speaker, principal Peter Schaefer, introduction of graduates and their future plans, slide show, toasts, and presentation of scholarships.

The 14 grads have chosen the theme "Save tonight."

Fillmore

At 33 Central School in Fillmore, the 16 graduates have chosen June 26 as their grad date. The banquet will begin at 5:30 p.m. with ceremonies scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and a social to follow.

Guest speaker for the evening will be community member Blair Stewart, and valedictorian is Tyson Allan. Scholarships and awards will be presented, along with a slide presentation.

"Shoot for the moon - for if you miss, you'll still land among the stars." That's the theme the 14 graduates of Stoughton Central School chose for their graduation.

June 26 is the date for the ceremonies, which will include a banquet, ceremonies in the school gym, and dance to be held at the Legion immediately following the ceremonies.

Retired teacher Vern Vogel will be the guest speaker for the evening, while Adam Svenkeson will emcee the event.
