Group hug with Mom!

Sonya Potyra gets lots of loving from her three children, Hannah, David and Vienna, while playing with them at the Elks Park on Douglas Road on Thursday afternoon. Sonya, like mothers everywhere, will be treated special by their families on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 9, in many ways, from flowers and candy to being taken out for supper. Meeting Jinx the lynx

Charlene Cretin gets in close to pet Jinx, a two-year-old female Siberian lynx, while Maegan Biss and Douglas Hrynkiw await their turn to pet her at St. Dominic Savio School on Friday morning. The big cat was brought in by Russell Hanson, who raises around 50 big cats on his farm at Domremy, near Prince Albert. He brought Jinx along with a Canadian lynx and a bobcat for the students to see and learn about. Hanson said this lynx is the European equivalent of a cougar, and mainly hunts deer in the wild for its prey; the male of this species grows to about twice the size of this female.
