Don't blink - but is that Reuben Eddy in goal?

"I always had fast reflexes," admits Eddy, 14, who is in his third year of playing water polo with the Weyburn Water Polo Club. Now in the Cadet division, he often switches back and forth between a variety of positions in the pool but will probably be a goaltender for the provincials being held in Regina this month.

Although he was never involved with the Silver Seals speed swimming club, Eddy started taking swimming lessons when he was only about five years old.

"I always liked swimming and I never really got tired of it," he says.

His involvement in water polo allowed him to help his team earn a silver and a bronze medal at last year's provincials. That isn't all he does, however. His athletic interests have included soccer, floor hockey, street hockey, basketball, golf and even another kind of pool: billiards.

His favourite sport is probably football.

"I played catch with my dad when I was a little kid. It was the first sport I ever really played."

Eddy admires the abilities of such athletes as Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Although he has played basketball and volleyball at the Weyburn Junior High, he prefers playing sports just for the fun of it.

"I don't do it competitively," he says - adding that it doesn't mean he's a pushover. "I can be aggressive if I have to be."
