The Weyburn Group Home Society received $31,390 in additional funding on Thursday to help provide more support to the intellectually-disabled people in the community.
Weyburn-Big Muddy MLA Judy Bradley handed over the cheque on behalf of Social Services Minister Harry Van Mulligan.
"We'll be able to hire additional staff to do things in the community and take the strain off our staffing model. We'll be able to have support staff in all the group homes now," said Bernice Jordens, administrator for the group homes.
The Weyburn Group Home Society runs three group homes and provides services for those individuals living in their own homes. The grant funding will help the society to work with those who live at home through the Supportive Independent Living Program.
"We are continuing to invest in quality services for individuals with intellectual challenges. Community-based organizations are our partners in helping ensure people with intellectual disabilities achieve a better quality of life in the community," said Bradley in a release announcing the grant funding.
Province-wide, Social Services provides more than $39 million for community-based organizations, an increase of 8.9 per cent over last year.
