Former Weyburn painter has work chosen for March West

A former Weyburn painter, Dianne Dyck, has had her painting, The March West, selected as the official painting of the RCMP's historical reenactment of the march by the NWMP in 1874.

Limited edition prints of the painting are available for sale throughout the march at each of the stops, including at Torquay on May 29, June 1 near Radville, June 2 in Pangman and June 5 in Avonlea.

Dianne lived in Weyburn for 24 years, and held her first exhibition of art here in 1981, at which she sold 24 paintings. She has taken part in many art exhibitions, competitions and sales, and has paintings in collection across Canada, the U.S., Germany, Switzerland and China.

Dianne calls her work traditional realism, and due to her Saskatchewan roots has been drawn to preserving Saskatchewan's history.

"For me, the historical significance of the March West is a fascinating legacy. I am proud as an artist to have some small part in preserving this period in history for future generations," said Dianne.

The March West began from Emerson, Man., on May 8 and will continue through Saskatchewan to end at Fort Macleod, Alta., in July, along with a northern leg to run from Fort Carlton, north of Saskatoon, to Fort Saskatchewan near Edmonton.
