The 1999 Saskatchewan Oil and Gas Show scheduled for June 9 and 10 is entirely sold out says Nola Nikolejsin, secretary with the Weyburn Oil Show Board.
All the seminars are in place and Premier Roy Romanow is expected to make opening-ceremony remarks on Wednesday, June 9, while Natural Resources Minister Ralph Goodale is expected to be a key note speaker on Thursday, June 10. Goodale will speak on The Oil and Gas Industry into the Year 2000 and Beyond, at a luncheon on Thursday, sponsored by the CanadiAssociation of Petroleum Producers.
A horizontal re-entry drilling rig will also be set up for display just south of the new Ag Society barn. A horizontal re-entry drilling rig can do the job of both a horizontal drilling rig and a service rig, and is a lot more portable than a convention drilling rig.
On Wednesday, June 9, a safety seminar will be held at the McFadden Building directly west of the curling rink from 10 a.m. to noon. Nikolejsin reports the seminar will feature the following guests speakers: Bob Ross, manager, workplace safety unit (south) for Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety; Bob Cunningham, executive director for the Canadian Petroleum Safety Council; Steve Wallace, safety director, Heavy Construction Safety Association of Saskatchewan Inc.; Mark Evans, manager of public affairs; and Gord Moker, manager of revenue, Saskatchewan Workers' Compensation Board.
Bob Ross will speak to new regulations, current changes and what's new in Occupational Health and Safety.
Bob Cunningham with the Canadian Petroleum Safety Council, will speak on three main initiatives underway at the Petroleum Safety Council, accident and injury statistical standards as well as communications and harmonization.
Steve Wallace, Heavy Construction Association, will follow by explaining to all contractors (especially anyone involved in moving dirt or disturbing soil) how his association is acting as a resource to its members.
Mark Evans and Greg Moker from Workers' Compensation will close by speaking on the relationship between WCB, OH&S and the Heavy Construction Association.
On the afternoon of June 9 from 1-3 p.m., an environmental seminar will be held and speakers will include: Todd Han of Saskatchewan Energy and Mines, speaking on Energy and Mines' role in waste management, Dennis Lang of Shell Canada Ltd. will be speaking on Midale-unit waste issues, Jon Hutt of KBL Consulting will be discussing Weyburn-unit waste issues, and Bob Lawrence of Plains Environmental Inc. will be reviewing cavern methods for waste containment.
On Thursday, June 10, a morning seminar will be held with topics including: Improving Injection Water Quality, by Blair Eddy of PanCanadian Resource; Automation of a Mature Field (Weyburn Unit Saskatchewan) by Teresa Utsonomiya of PanCanadian Resources; and a third seminar is yet to be announced.
