Comp band brings home silver award

Silver is the colour of the award given to the Weyburn Comprehensive Band at the National Music Festival in Toronto this past week. Besides the thrill of achieving such a high mark the 96 music students and 10 chaperones had a fantastic time during their whirlwind trip.

For those wanting to hear this award-winning band, they will be staging their spring concert on Wednesday, June 2 in the Cafetorium, starting at 7:30 p.m. The school choir and jazz band will also be performing that night.

The South East District Track Meet, originally scheduled for today, was changed to Friday, May 28, weather permitting. Events will start around 9 a.m. and run until 3 p.m. A couple of hundred athletes will be vying for a position on the district team to go to provincials the following weekend.

A team of students will be going to Melville on Thursday to compete in a cosmetology competition. This is annual event and the competition is keen in hairstyling and make-up.

On Saturday, many people will join in a tribute supper for Ed Kolybaba, the retiring Director of Education for the public and Comprehensive school divisions. The event will take place in the WCS Cafetorium, starting at 6 p.m.
