Mackenze Sanders has made the jump.
Playing with the Weyburn Mosquito Pan Oilers last year as an AP, he is a full-fledged member of the lineup this year and can be seen playing second base, shortstop and, of course, pitcher.
"I like being pitcher the best," says Sanders, 10, who enjoys being at the centre of the action while on the field.
This is actually his fifth season of playing baseball after getting started on city teams. When there's snow on the ground, Sanders spends his time playing hockey.
"It's fun," he says, adding that he enjoys the stickhandling most of all.
Being on a travelling team is pretty good too. He's had a chance to do a lot of socializing and make new acquaintances while travelling to other cities, which can be exciting, Sanders says.
Oilers coach Bryan Wilson describes him as one of the team's best all-round athletes, with quick reflexes that allow him to play infield or outfield equally well. Sanders himself prefers being out in the field where he has freedom to move.
He also likes to watch sports on TV but his personal playing experience, most recently with the Oilers, has taught him how to work with others and have fun doing it.
"It's a really good team," Sanders says. "Lots of my friends are on it."
