The best pool players in Saskatchewan will be racking 'em up in the city this week when Weyburn hosts the province's eight-ball championship for the first time ever.
The Canadian Classic Eight-Ball Open - formerly known as the Number 7 Eight-Ball Challenge - will be held at the Rack House, Weyburn's fledgling downtown pool hall, this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
"What it is, is without exce ption the best 64 players in the province," said Rack House owner and Saskatchewan Snooker and Billiards Association vice-president Darcy DeForest.
Among the competitors is current Canadian eight-ball champion and national snooker finalist Brad Pooreman of Raymore, Sask. who will be defending his title.
"It's going to be top-calibre," DeForest said, adding that spectators are welcome to attend the three-day event and admission is free.
"This is our opportunity to showcase the game of billiards in Weyburn."
The field of 64 participants earned their spots during spring playdowns held in pool halls, bars and lounges across Saskatchewan which consisted of over 320 qualifying tournaments and zone finals.
Representing the Weyburn area are Kevin Hallberg, Rick Hallberg and Wade Simons of Weyburn, Royce Hallberg of Halbrite and Garth Stoughton of Oxbow.
