After a rained out tournament in Assiniboia on May 29, the Weyburn Extremes offense exploded at Melville's A Tournament on Sunday, May 30.
Game 1 against the Melville Slammers saw the Extremes play excellent offense and defense.
Drew Krainyk and Jordan Sanders contributed triples in the second inning driving home five runs, and Travis McLeod managed some fancy footwork in the third inning between third and home plate to bring in the final run.
On the defensive side, excellent pitching by Ian McKenzie and Morgan Sanders held the Slammers at bay, and a great catch from left fielder Jordan Sanders capped off a win of 14-0 in the Extremes' favour.
Game 2 saw the Extremes face the Melville Water Boys. Drew Krainyk contributed two triples, one in the third and one in the fourth inning, bringing in a total of five runs. Defensively, the Extremes were sharp, not allowing the Water Boys any runs until the fourth and final innings. The result was a 14-2 win over their Melville opponents. Josh Williams and Jordan Sanders shared the pitching duties.
With their first two successful outings behind them, the Extremes advanced to the A-side final against the Melville Pacers. After a slow defensive start the Weyburn Extremes held the Pacers to only three runs scored in the first inning.
The final game was highlighted by excellent pitching from Brad Wallin and Jason Hoium, with an exciting game-ending play coming from fielder Carter Hilkewich to Josh Williams at first base, throwing the last batter out. The game ended in a 9-3 victory for the Extremes to take first place in the tournament.
Next action for the Weyburn Extremes will be in Regina on June 5 and 6 to participate in a RBA AA tournament.
