Graham DeLaet has joined his Saskatchewan Junior Golf teammates in Chatham, Ont. for the Canadian Junior Golf Championships to be held Tuesday to Thursday, Aug. 20.

DeLaet hopes to improve on the seventh-place finish registered by last year's Saskatchewan provincial team.

"We were not happy with last year's performance," said DeLaet. "This year we have a much more solid team, so we should do better."

The tournament is like having two tournaments at the same time. First, the provincial teams face off with the top three scores counting for a province's final result. A national team champion is decided on those results.

Then, an individual national champion is decided on the final day after two-thirds of the golfers are eliminated on the basis of their score. The top third play for the right to be called national champion.

"I look forward to playing on a beautiful course," said DeLaet on Thursday before he departed for the tournament.
