Two rodeos will be riding into town from Friday, Aug. 27 to Sunday, Aug. 29 at the Weyburn Exhibition Grounds.

The Weyburn Community Rodeo will be held from Aug. 28-29. Rodeo participants will take part in seven major rodeo events, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, team roping, barrel racing and bareback riding. Performance times are 5 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Brian Lanktree, a Weyburn Community Rodeo organizer, expects the turnout for the professional rodeo to be high.

"Rodeo participation has increased all over," said Lanktree. "We are expecting 200 participants in the rodeo and anywhere from 600-800 spectators this weekend."

The event, which is jointly operated by the Weyburn Agricultural Society and the Lions Club, will also feature face painting, a loonie dig, mutton busting, celebrity sheep dressing, a beer gardens and a cabaret. Rodeo clowns will also be out and about town looking to entertain rodeo fans. The cabaret will start at 8:30 on Saturday, Aug. 28.

In conjunction with the event the Optimists Club will be holding a pancake breakfast on Saturday morning at 8 a.m. in the Weyburn Curling Club. Tickets for the Community Rodeo are $6 for adults and $2 for children.

On Aug. 27 and 28, a high school rodeo will also be held at the exhibition grounds. Events at this rodeo include, saddle bronc, bareback riding, bull riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping, girls breakaway roping, girls barrel racing, girls pole bending and girls bow tying.

Sandi Stewart, a high school rodeo organizer said she expects about 75 participants from all over Saskatchewan.

"All students must have a signed declaration from a teacher that they are solid citizens and good students," said Stewart. "High school rodeos promote good sportsmanship and education."

Admission for the high school rodeo is $3 per day or $5 for the entire high school rodeo. The admission is separate from the Weyburn Community Rodeo.
