Let's make it the world's largest!

The Performing Arts Society is attempting to set a world record and sell roughly 2,500 tickets for their fund-raising fowl supper and Celtic music concert coming up on Thanksgiving weekend, Sunday, Oct. 10.
The proceeds are being directed toward the construction of a new performing arts centre in Weyburn.
There are many benefits a new performing arts centre could bring to the city.
First, there is the economic spin off. If Weyburn were able to house a larger and more popular performing arts events such as concerts, plays, comedy events and even children's acts, there would be a greater spinoff benefit for all businesses.
Secondly, there is an inherent value to the arts and being able to expose our children as well as the adult population to a broader cross section of entertainment. Artists and performers broaden our minds surprising us sometimes with their differing points of view.
Third, having a performing arts centre in the community adds one more piece to the puzzle of benefits offered by the City of Weyburn - the more services the city offers, the more attractive the city becomes to potential newcomers. A performing arts centre would add to the quality of life in our fair city, and quality of life can be an essential argument when attempting to attract any large new industry, doctor, teacher or entrepreneur to Weyburn.
The performing arts centre is definitely something that would benefit the community. There are many performing arts events which pass by the city simply because we do not have adequate facilities, and when this happens the people of Weyburn miss out from an arts perspective and businesses misses out financially.
The evening on Oct. 10 will include several sittings for a turkey supper, billed by organizers as the World's Largest Fowl Supper. The evening will also include performances by the Cape Breton Celtic band the Barra MacNeils, along with Squeeze of Scotch from Regina.
The organizers are also planning to have a model of the performing arts centre on display at the courtyard allowing people attending the fowl supper to see what the centre would look like.
So, come out to this event! Your support will help in the effort to build a centre for the arts that will expose your family to new ideas. Get together with your friends, family and community to work toward this worthwhile goal. Let's make it the world's largest! - S.B.
