Carter Hilkewich

Carter Hilkewich is a busy Grade 7 student juggling his time between two sports - volleyball and hockey.

A setter on the 'B' volleyball team at the Weyburn Junior High, Hilkewich says the team has travelled to Yellow Grass, Estevan, and Rouleau.

He started playing both volleyball and hockey when he was in elementary school. He also played soccer, but has since given it up.

When volleyball season is finished, Hilkewich plans to try out for the Cobras basketball team.

Hockey cut into volleyball season this year when it started in October. Hilkewich plays on the Kinsmen team in the Pee Wee division, and he says he likes it because it's fun and competitive.

His favourite athlete is Eric Lindros because "Philadelphia is one of my favourite teams and because he's really good."

Hilkewich says one of his funniest experiences in sports happened when he was playing hockey in the Junior Novice division.

"I tried to get in the box but my stick was sideways and it broke," he says with a smile. He wants it to be noted it was the the player's box - not the penalty box.
