Yellow Grass girl performing in The Nutcracker in Regina

Lindsey Richards of Yellow Grass will be dancing in the Alberta Ballet's production of The Nutcracker at the Saskatchewan Centre of the Arts in Regina on Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 23 and 24th.

Lindsey's mother Trudy says this is her daughter's third performance in The Nutcracker.

"She has two parts this year, as a mouse and a ginger girl - there's four girls and four boys who come out from under a hoop," said Trudy.

Lindsey has been dancing since the age of three. Now 14 years old, this is her 11th year dancing with the Drewitz School of Dance, being a member of both the Estevan and Weyburn troupes.

Lindsey's mother explained the Alberta Ballet and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet alternate their performances of The Nutcracker, with the Alberta Ballet using local dancers in their production.

The audition for the performance was held Sept. 11, and practices have been ongoing for the past six weeks.

"It's really been good experience, to get to meet other dancers. They become very good friends and they get to meet the professional dancers and learn what their life is like," said Trudy.
