The Chamber of Commerce Parade of Lights will brighten Weyburn streets on Dec. 9 starting at 6:30 p.m. The parade route has changed from previous years. The parade will now leave from the Exhibition Grounds and will travel north on Government Road to First Avenue. The parade will then travel east on First Avenue to Second Street. The entourage will travel south down Second Street to Prairie Avenue, where they will travel east to Third Street. The parade will continue down Third Street through the downtown area to Railway Avenue where it will turn west to Second Street. From there, the parade will travel up to Coteau Avenue, turning west to its conclusion on Government Road. The parade route changed this year for several reasons. The old marshaling area is where the Subway is being constructed. But the route also changed so people who are in the hospital can now view the parade without leaving the building. "The Parade of Lights is a wonderful way to start the Christmas shopping season," said Weyburn Chamber of Commerce manager Jacqueline Garbutt. "It also give children a chance to see Santa." The chamber expects to see from 15 to 20 floats participating in this year's parade. The parade normally lasts from 45 minutes to an hour. Anyone who is interested in taking part in the parade should contact the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce. |
