Amateur art to be judged by public

The public is welcome to view and rate artist submissions to the James Weir People's Choice Exhibition starting on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000 at the Allie Griffin Art Gallery.

The ballot boxes will be open until noon on Monday, Jan. 31 when the numbers will be tallied and winners chosen. The winners will be announced at a reception on Jan. 31 at 7 p.m.

Prizes for the first, second and third rated art pieces will receive plaques.

The exhibit allows about 30 local amateur artists to show their works to a local audience. The exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

"The competition is good for the artists who do not have many pieces to displaying order to gain exposure," said arts director Alice Neufeld. "The exhibit is generally well attended and very successful."
