The Inter-lacrosse Saskatchewan Games playdown tournament will take place at the Weyburn Comprehensive School on April 1, 2000. Inter-lacrosse is a co-ed sport ideal for smaller communities who might have troubles fielding a team of exclusively boys or girls. To play the sport, players need a helmet, hockey, baseball or lacrosse chest protection, hockey or lacrosse arm protection, shin guards and hockey or lacrosse gloves. Goalies must use a regular inter-lacrosse stick. The nets will be set at four feet high by four feet wide. The Saskatchewan Lacrosse Association may be able to provide your school or community with sticks for the tournament. The association is willing to provide clinics on the sport at a cost of $60 plus mileage. Team registrations are due by March 22, 2000. Teams are limited to seven boys or girls and three girls or boys. All students must play on teams from where they live or attend school. National Coaching Certification program theory courses are scheduled for the Weyburn area in the new year. Level 1 classes will be held on April 10, 12, 17 and 18. Level 2 classes are scheduled for March 25, 26 and April 1. Other communities can request a course with a minimum of 10 registrations. For information, contact regional co-ordinator Bob King at the Weyburn office of the Southeast Saskatchewan Association for Culture, Recreation and Sport. The Southeast Saskatchewan Association for Culture, Recreation and Sport will plan power skating clinics for any community with 10 interested people. The clinics are held in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Figure Skating Association, but the skills are transferable to hockey and speed skating as well.
