Eagles down alumni in annual match

After falling behind in the initial moments of the game, the Weyburn Comprehensive School's Senior Eagles stormed back to down the WCS 'Old Men' Alumni 64-55 on Dec. 21.

Eagles coach Wanda Pegg paid compliment to both her past and present players. Alumni and present-day U of S Husky Jamie Charlton shot the three and drove the hoop aggressively while Wyatt Woycik's shot has aged like a fine wine since gracing the Eagles' court on a full-time basis.

The Eagles' off side forward D.J. Gaul scored well from the outside, and excellent play was demonstrated by Grade 11 point Sedric Wilson, "who ran the show well."

Pegg said another highlight of the game included the play of two Baku brothers, one alumni, and one with the Eagles.

Added Pegg: "We looked good against the alumni. We'll do well this year as long as we improve and do well."

This year the Eagles have eight players who are very strong, and having the talent to call players off the bench is a bit of a luxury for Pegg.

"Sometimes it's hard to find the line up but I always tell them it's not the starting five that are important but the final five - they're there because they're doing an excellent job," said Pegg.
