Weyburn had one of the warmest and driest Decembers in memory, with three temperature records broken between Christmas and New Year's. According to the weather statistics compiled by the city's filtration plant, new records were set for Dec. 26, 28 and 29. On Boxing Day, the mercury rose to 6.5 degrees, breaking the former record of 6 set in 1980. On Dec. 28, the high temperature was 9 degrees, the warmest day of December. The former record was 4.5 set in 1979; on the 29th, the high was 7.5, breaking the old record of 4.5 set in 1980. The coldest day of the month was Dec. 28, when the temperature fell to -28.5. The average high temperature in December was 0.8, compared to the long-term average high of -6.7. The average low was -10.1, warmer than the long-term average of -16.7, and the mean temperature was -4.7, again higher than the long-term average of -11.7. Weyburn received a total precipitation of 8.2 centimetres, much lower than the long-term average snowfall of 18.4 cm for December. While this was low, it wasn't close to the record of 1.3 cm. The long-term averages are taken of the filtration plant's records since it began recording the city's weather statistics in 1952. |
