A mother-daughter health night is being planned for the Weyburn Comprehensive School on Tuesday, Feb. 1, to cover a variety of health-related topics.

The evening is being put on by the WCS Teen Health Advisory Board, and includes such topics as weight control, healthy heart, healthy bones, stress management and communication. The evening starts at 6:45 p.m. and is open to everyone, with a number of organizations, businesses and individuals providing presenters and door prizes.

A number of students attended a panel on medical careers recently.

Programs and activities at the Comp will be shut down starting on Friday, Jan. 21, until Thursday, Jan. 27, as final exams for the first semester will be held. There will be no school on Friday, Jan. 28, as it is an administration day. The first day of the second semester will be Monday, Jan. 31.

The senior basketball teams will play before the new term begins, as both boys and girls teams will be off to Moose Jaw on the weekend of Jan. 28-29.

In the past week, the junior girls basketball team won all three games at their tournament hosted on Friday and Saturday, while the senior girls won two of their three games. The senior boys played in Caronport and came home with the second-place medal after losing to the host team in the championship final.

In the annual McLeod Series, both games were close but Weyburn won, sending the Eagles on to the second half with a 20-point lead.

Ali Niani and Devon Dubnyk finished first in the Division 4 Novice category at a debate tournament held in Moose Jaw over the weekend.

A new youth counsellor, Bill Kapell, will start at the Comp on Jan. 27. His services will be provided once a week through the South Central Health District. He replaces Lisa Johnson who has moved on to a different area; she provided an important service to students over the past year.
