Weyburn Fire department responds to pair of fires

The Weyburn Fire Department responded to a pair of fires, with no injuries reported from either incident.

On Tuesday morning, firefighters were called to the Fine Furniture Oasis store on Third Street, as some ceiling tiles had caught on fire.

Fire Chief Denis Pilon explained the ballast in a light fixture had burned out, causing the ceiling to catch on fire. No other damage was caused other to the area in the ceiling. The fire chief said it was fortunate someone was in the store at the time, and prevented any further damage from occurring.

The fire department was called to a vehicle fire early on Saturday morning.

Weyburn RCMP reported a car had swerved off Highway 13 east of the bridge on 18th Street and rolled into the ditch.

The vehicle was left overnight, but the driver had been smoking and left the cigarette in the vehicle, causing it to catch on fire, said Chief Pilon. The fire department was called around 6 a.m. to put out the fire.
