Another Wave to play here, part of eight-stop concert tour

Weyburn band Another Wave is taking part in a series of concerts around Saskatchewan, including a stop in Weyburn, put on through the Saskatchewan Recording Industry Association.

The Flatland Music Series is also featuring a Saskatoon band, Five Minute Miracle, in a series of eight concerts which begins Feb. 7 in Melville and will stop in Weyburn on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at the Comprehensive School Cafetorium.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are available at the door at $7 each.

Another Wave has a video in rotation on MuchMusic for their song, Nine, which was filmed at Souris Valley last year. The video was released last June, but didn't start getting play until around July. The hard-rock group has opened for acts including BTO, Tal Bachman, Streetheart, Painting Daisies and Captain Tractor.

The members of Another Wave include lead singer Andy Barber on rhythm guitar, Todd Milleker on bass, Bob Rasmuson on drums, and Chris Hillstead on lead guitar; Hillstead is also the main songwriter for the group.

Besides promoting their current album, the groups will also have workshops for Comp students earlier in the day on the business of recording and touring, songwriting and sound enhancement for live performances.

Other dates in the series will take the groups to Yorkton, Estevan, Esterhazy, Carlyle, Moosomin and Kamsack.

The Flatland Music Series is an initiative of the recording industry association to promote acts and develop new audiences in the province's rural markets, and will help high school students identify related career options in the industry here in Saskatchewan. Some funding for the series comes through the government's Cultural Industries Development Fund.
