Heritage Village did well in '99 but new members needed

The year 1999 was one of the best ever for the Weyburn and Area Heritage Village, but the group in charge of the village are in desperate need for new volunteers for the coming year.

The annual meeting for the Heritage Village will be held tonight, March 22, at Signal Hill Arts Centre, starting at 7 p.m., to go over the finances and reports of the past year, and to elect officers for 2000.

"It looks like last year was one of the best years we've had, but the members are starting to feel a little burnt out. We need new members. Anybody who is interested at all would help out," said Coun. Marlene Nedelcov, who represents city council on the Heritage Village board.

New people are particularly required to help out on the board, she added.

"The time commitment would be difficult to say. They have to help oversee the summer students, and make sure the tours are organized. The people have to be willing to do a little work around the village as well," said Coun. Nedelcov.

If there isn't enough interest shown by the community to add new members to the board or just to help out around the village during the season, the village may have to be turned back over to the city, she said.
