Sask. 55+ Summer Games needs volunteers for events

The organizing committee for the Saskatchewan 55 Plus Summer Games is continuing to make its preliminary preparations.

Event co-ordinators are still required for Athletics and floor curling. If you are interested in filling one of these roles, contact Lyn Johnston at the Wheatland Seniors Centre.

Games co-chairman Ray Hamm said the biggest push for the organizing committee right now is to get enough volunteers.

Plans are also being made by Colleen Weimer to have a children's choir with elementary school children performing at the closing ceremonies.

All information required by the zone committees about games events have been sent out. This in formation included registration procedures.

To register in each event, participants are required to submit a $25 registration fee.

All athletes will also receive information of the services and attractions Weyburn has to offer. Various accommodation options available to athletes and visitors will also be outlined.

"We have asked hotels for details regarding packages for the games," said Hamm.

A web site is currently under construction which will be used to promote the games. An office in the Weyburn Federal Building is scheduled to open in May, and will house the games administration team. It will be staffed by summer students.
