Survivor of fall improving in hospital

The survivor of a 12-metre (40-foot) fall inside the Pioneer grain elevator, Lionel Cherpin, is improving in the Regina General Hospital's Intensive Care Unit.

He is reported to be in serious to fair condition as of Tuesday and is improving, said a spokesperson for the Regina Health District.

The 47-year-old Hume resident fell on March 13 while working on dismantling the elevator's west annex. Cherpin is an employee of Pioneer Grain, but was not on duty at the time of the accident.

The annex is being demolished as it's deteriorating and is no longer needed by the elevator. The accident is under investigation by Occupational Health and Safety officials as well as by Transport Canada.
