Spring matinee designed to entertain kids and parents

Two generations of actors and crew members will collaborate on a spring show featuring comedy and high jinx that all ages will enjoy.

Crocus 80, an adult theatre company, and Stage Left Drama Club, a children's drama club, welcomed an opportunity to work together. Audiences can catch both in action at matinee performances to be held on May 13 and 14, in a nod to Mother's Day weekend.

Stage Left Drama Club, which involves children from 9 to 14 years of age, will perform Beanie and the Bamboozling Book Machine, a comedy. Crocus 80 will produce the short play, The Marriage Proposal, a comedy set in the wild west.

Thirteen young actors are involved in the Stage Left play, which is directed by D'Arcy Megenbir and Leanne Bishop, who are also Crocus 80 members. Acting in the Crocus 80 production are Brenda Clock, Peter Brocollo and Mona Caldwell as directed by Tammy Lawrence and Kim Wheeler.

"It should be a very entertaining show," said Bishop. "The kids can learn the whole process of a play through experiences like these. And every time they perform, they get a little more secure about being on stage."

The youth drama members have classes every Saturday and have been involved with a few productions in the past year.

This year has special meaning for Crocus 80 members, as the club will celebrate its 20th anniversary this fall. A big celebration is being planned for November when Crocus 80 hosts its next dinner theatre.
