WCS girls singles, doubles badminton teams to regionals

Three female badminton players at Weyburn Comprehensive School extended their seasons by winning gold or silver medals at the district tournament in Estevan on Wednesday.

The girls doubles team of Carly Pateman and Frankie Dufour came home with gold medals. Jody Anderson advanced to the next round with her silver medal performance.

Only the top two placings qualified to play in the regional finals. This year's regional final will be held in Whitewood on Saturday, May 6.

The boys team of Mike Larson and Trevor Lebersback finished the tournament with a bronze medal.

Chris Moser, the Eagles' boys singles representative, was a favourite to advance to the regional final. But his play was adversely affected by an illness and he ended up fighting his way to a bronze medal.

Eight schools were represented at the Estevan tournament, and were divided into two pools. The top two placings in each pool met in a playoff round to determine the district representatives to the regional final.
