Registrations arriving

More volunteers needed for Homecoming 2000 weekend

Early registrations for Weyburn's Homecoming 2000 weekend this summer are arriving daily, and volunteers are falling into place, according to the organizing committee of the event at their latest meeting, April 27.

The volunteers for the various committees involved in organizing the event, to be held the same weekend as the Weyburn Wheat Festival on Aug. 11-13, are mostly in place, but more volunteers are needed.

For example, volunteers will be needed for decorating the Legion and Colosseum for the events to be held there. If you would like to help out, call Audrey Bennett.

The committee was told there are approximately 270 hotel and motel rooms available in the city, and they will monitor the vacancy rate; if needed, a request will go out to city residents for billets, and will be publicized through the paper, radio and community cable channel. Citizens will be asked to register with the tourism department at City Hall.

Organizer Hazeldene Evans noted the city has a reputation as the hospitality capitol of Saskatchewan, and asked all city residents to help welcome visitors to Weyburn on that weekend.

The committee also said it is very difficult to be able to contact all friends and relatives by mail, and are asking city residents to help out in contacting former residents of Weyburn. Registration forms are available from the tourism department at City Hall, and can also be found in the ad in this week's Weyburn Review, or on the Weyburn Review web site.
