When he was attending school in Weyburn, Paul Schuck sometimes got into trouble for joking around in class - today his joking has earned a spot on a nationally-televised talk show. The Weyburn Comp grad, currently in his third year of a political science degree at the University of Calgary, won a provincial comedy competition held by the Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club, and will appear on Mike Bullard's late-night show on CTV sometime in May. The road to national exposure began a couple of years ago, as he began doing improvisational comedy at Yuk Yuk's and the Loose Moose while attending school. The improvs grew to gigs at various night clubs and comedy clubs around Calgary. He took part in the competition at Yuk Yuk's in Calgary this spring and was one of the top two winners, going on to win the provincial competition. His father, city lawyer Tom Schuck, noted his son had comedian-like tendencies from an early age, which he took to school and sometimes got into trouble for. "Being the youngest in the family, he just enjoyed making his brothers and sisters laugh," Schuck said, adding by high school Paul's popularity led him to become president of the SRC. This summer Paul will continue to do comedy and work at Heritage Park in Calgary. The elder Schuck noted Paul had entered the same contest last year and came close to winning. He said the whole family is proud of Paul's accomplishment and are awaiting word on the broadcast date of his appearance with Mike Bullard. |
