Comp students taking part in national, international study

Some students at the Weyburn Comprehensive School will be taking part in a national and international study today measuring the abilities of 15-year-olds in a variety of subjects.

The test measures ability in the areas of reading, math and science. There are approximately 30,000 students selected at random from across Canada for the study from 1,200 schools, with Canada being one of 32 countries taking part.

The Comp's cosmetology team is taking part in a provincial competition in Prince Albert on May 11 and 12, after Weyburn hosted this competition last year. The Comp team has done well in the past.

Track team members are attending mini-meets as they prepare for the district track meet to be held in Carlyle on May 23-24.

The badminton season ended over the weekend for the Comp team, as neither school team advanced to provincials after taking part in the regionals at Qu'Appelle over the weekend.

The WCS band and choir returned from their trip to Edmonton, and are now preparing for the spring concert to be held on Wednesday, May 24. The Weyburn Music Auxiliary's ham and scalloped potatoes supper, originally scheduled for May 15, has been cancelled.

Nominations are now being accepted for next year's SRC at the Comp, as well as next year's grad coordinators and this year's tributes and valedictorian for the Class of 2000.
