Lisa Lawrence travelled to Waterloo, Ont. on May 5 for the Youth Bowling Council national 5-pin bowling championships and said the experience was one she will never forget. Lawrence bowled in the senior girls singles category, representing Saskatchewan. In the opening ceremonies, she marched in with the other provincial champions carrying the Saskatchewan flag and wearing provincial colours. In finishing in seventh place overall, Lawrence improved on her average score by 20 pins per game over the 22 games she bowled in Waterloo. Her average through the tournament was 235, four pins shy of the 239 bowled by the tournament's eventual champion from Prince Edward Island. "I felt all the competitors bowled to the best of their abilities and had a lot of fun doing it," Lawrence said. Bowling at a national championship is something she had not experienced before, but she felt no added pressure. "During the competition while bowling against the other provinces, I never once felt any one competitor was actually representing an entire province," she said. While in Ontario, Lawrence was accompanied by her coach, Charlotte Soveran, and stayed with billets. |
