While the economic benefits of increased oilfield activity have boosted the local economy, a problem has been created for SSFA 55 Plus Games organizers - there's no room at the inn for athletes. The organizers are now looking to billet athletes who will not be able to get hotel rooms during the games, which run from Sunday, July 16 to Wednesday, July 19. Anyone who wants to offer their home to serve as part of Weyburn's athletes' village should contact the SSFA 55 Plus Games office in Weyburn. There is also a need for more volunteers and sponsorship dollars. "We've received a lot of in-kind donations, but we're really looking for fund-raising opportunities," said Games co-chairman Ray Hamm. "All monetary donations are tax-deductable." For information on sponsorship opportunities, contact sponsorship chairman Don Byrnes. Volunteers can contact Lynn Johnston at the Wheatland Seniors Centre or the 55 Plus Games office in Weyburn. |
