Biggest line-up ever for Cancer Jamboree

Most of the plans are in place for the 12th annual Country Music Jamboree, the annual fund-raiser of the Southeast Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society staged at Nickle Lake, with the main need now for volunteers.

The jamboree will have around 20 groups playing, the biggest line-up in its history, including recording artists The Poverty Plainsmen. The event will be held on the weekend of June 24-25 at the Nickle Lake Regional Park campgrounds, from 1 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

There will be many activities besides the music, with a Show-and-Shine event for cars, trucks and motorcycles, hay rides, children's games, a pancake breakfast on the Sunday morning, a motorcycle rodeo, and the annual Cops For Cancer shave on Sunday afternoon.

Some of the local area bands to play include Another Wave, The Yahoos, The Travellers, Laydee & Co., Rattlesnake, Soo City Blue, Moody Hollow, Wolf Creek, Dulcet and Alfredo and Skyelar, among others.

The biggest need organizers have at this point is for volunteers, said Les Hill, to help with everything from selling raffle tickets and 50/50 tickets to manning the gate and the bank on site at the jamboree. To volunteer or for more information, contact the Southeast Unit office in Weyburn.

All proceeds from this event will go towards the Canadian Cancer Society, including from the admission to the event (which is $2 per person over 12 over the cost of admission to the regional park).
