Rotary Polkafest on June 3

The 10th Annual Weyburn Rotary Club Polkafest is set to take place June 3, from noon to midnight at the Weyburn Curling Rink.

The extremely popular event features "the best wood dance floor in Saskatchewan," which has been expanded to provide more dancing space, along with hot food and RV parking available.

Tickets are $15, available from Bent's Smoke Shoppe, Miles Agencies, Co-op Customer Service, and the CIBC, or by calling organizer Don Byrnes.

This year the featured bands will be the Rhythm Kings, Ray Stepp and the Melody Kings and Class Action. Polkas, waltzes and all kinds of music will be played.

The event started as a fund-raising idea for the Rotary Club, which sponsors exchange students, the Weyburn Music Festival, and contributes yearly to the Tatagwa Parkway. It has become a major event, with attendees from all over Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba.

Last year, 650 people attended Weyburn's Polkafest.

Money raised from the event will be used to support the Rotary Club's many local causes, such as the Tatagwa Parkway and local scholarship programs.

"It's supporting a worthwhile cause - Rotary and all the projects we undertake - and it's a lot of fun," said Rotary president Des Silver.
