Flippin' flapjacks for Special O

Volunteers flip pancakes in preparation for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics' fund-raising breakfast held at the city police station on Saturday morning. From left is Const. Toby Martin, Kim Alm-Schmidt, Jason Schmidt, Blaine Kimball, Lindsay Leko, Lynn Mondor and Hughie Gilchrist. Blaine and Lynn are both members of the Special O floor hockey team, plus Blaine will take part in track and field events. The fund-raiser's proceeds will be added to the funds raised by the torch run to take place in Weyburn on Friday, June 16, with all proceeds to be donated to the Special Olympics.

Heritage Fair a rewarding experience for APES

Grade 4 to 6 students of Assiniboia Park Elementary School display the rewards of participating in a Regional Heritage Fair in Regina at a school assembly on Thursday. Grade 4 students Adam Shirkie, left of the project, and Landon Calder, right, won the Grade 4 to 8 category for their project on the Canadian beaver. The boys, students of Mrs. Jackie Wilson (behind Landon), will take this project to national competition in Ottawa in July, where it will be one of seven entries representing Saskatchewan. Anca Toma of Canada Place (behind Adam) presented the students and the school with awards and praise for excellent participation in the Heritage Fair.
