The Weyburn Mainil Jets girls fastball team won five straight games in a tournament held on Saturday and Sunday in Moose Jaw. After trailing 7-2 after three innings in the A-final, the Jets came from behind, scoring 13 unanswered runs to beat the Moose Jaw Blue Jays 15-7. Karly Johnson struck out eight batters and also helped her own cause by going 3-3 and getting four RBIs. Megan Onstad went 2-3 with other singles coming from Shealease Haupstein, Ashley Betker, Kelcie McCutcheon, Kayla Giroux, Katie Unraw, Sara Storle, Lindsay Renz. In the first game of the tournament, the Jets were 17-2 winners over the Regina Falcons. Betker's pitching struck out seven. McCutcheon, Storle, and Giroux all went 2-2 with singles coming from Raeanne Leffler, Karly Johnson, Katherine Jones and Unraw. The Jets won their second game against the Moose Jaw Lasers 15-3. Johnson struck out six batters and contributed a hit. Other hits came from Vanessa Wick, Leffler, Betker, Jones, Renz and Storle. The Jets then hammered the Moose Jaw Ravens 21-3 in their third game of the day. Haupstein went a perfect 3-3, hitting two home runs to lead the Jets attack. Two-hit performances came from Leffler, Giroux and Onstad. Singles went to Betker, McCutcheon, Johnson, Storle and Unraw. Betker and Wick combined for six strikeouts to solidify the Jets' win. Johnson pitched a no-hitter, striking out seven batters in the Jets' 13-0 win against the Regina Royals. McCutcheon, Betker and Wick all had two hits while Sheena Tessier, Leffler, Haupstein, Giroux, Onstad, Renz and Unraw all had singles. The Jets will play their next games at an A-class tournament in Regina this weekend. |
